Tie your leg to something.  Tie the bed to the ground and wear a seatbelt.  Sleep in a sleeping bag that is stuck to the ground. Have a belt in your sleeping bag.

How do Astronauts Eat?
They tie a table onto their rockets and tie their dinner to the table.  Glue the table to the ground and then glue your plate and tie yourself somewhere and then take your helmet off and eat.  Eat with your hands when the food is floating.  Tie their plate to the table and tie their chair to the ground and then tie a bone to some string to eat it.

Here comes the real challenge and NASA need our help.  Can you come up with a great solution to share with NASA?

Printing

This morning we were learning how to make our letters the right size.  Tall letters touch the top and the bottom of the line but short letter start in the middle and go down to stand on the line. If we make our 'l' or 'i' letters the wrong height they will look the same - confusing!  When were were finished Mrs T gave us each a piece of gold.  We had to look carefully at every book and then put our piece of gold on the work that showed the best printing (not the printing that belonged to our best friend - tricky).  Ena and Ava were voted best printers today.  Come in and have a look at their work.

A big thank you to the parents and caregivers who came to Meet the Teacher night. I really appreciate the insights that you shared. The information will be put to good use. For most parents, it seemed, that the greatest goal for the year was to ensure that our kids are happy and excited about learning. I have very similar goals and a million ideas to hook our curious little learners. Keep an eye on the blog - I will be calling for helpers, resources and expertise.

Last week I started to introduce the kids to Easy Blogger. This is an iPad app that the children can use to post their learning stories to our blog (they are a bit rough at the moment). Positive comments left from parents, grandparents, family friends... are all welcome and give the kids a real audience and purpose for their learning. It also gives them a real buzz - remember how exciting it was to get a letter in the post?

Thomas' Scooter

Thomas brought his new scooter to school last week.  It has been misplaced.  Can you help us to find it, please?  It is a black MGP scooter.

Reading

I've noticed that most of our Room 5 readers are having a few issues with fluency.

Fluency is making our reading sound like talking (not like a robot).  When we read with fluency it helps us to make sense of the story.

We will be keeping a book for 2 days.  The first day is about figuring out the tricky words.  The second day is about reading with fluency.

Here is a video that explains it really nicely.

Meet the Teacher
The purpose of these interviews is to hear from you. What aspirations do you have for your child? Is there anything you want to share about your child? This information will help me to meet your child's needs. You will lead this conversation and I will be there to listen. Five minutes is a short time so we have a form coming home to fill in the bits that we don't get to. This means we can focus on the things that are most important to you during the conversation.

Thursday 9 February: 3.15pm to 6.00pm
To book an interview with your child's teacher please follow this process -

* parent/teacher interview school bookings
* event code 6w7hp

Bike to School Day is Thursday
You can bike from home, or students from outside the area can get dropped off outside the Arawa Bowling club in Lytton street between 8:00 and 8.20.  Students will be able to cycle or scoot from there to school with parents/teachers.  You MUST have a helmet. Our bikes will be kept outside our classroom. PLEASE, name the bike and the helmet.

Welcome

Sorry - this is a bit late.  I've had technical issues.  All sorted now.
